So, you’ve just hit 70. After long-last, you’ve maxed out your level. You’re just chomping at the bit to get into heroics, and start your progressing all the way to Sunwell Plateau. The only thing stopping you (besides rep in many cases)? Gear, that’s what! You’ll quickly learn that you can’t just jump into Zul’Aman with any ordinary gear you’ve snagged from quests. How do you get help with it? Well, the Armory is always a good place to start, as it can certainly offer upgrade choices, but how do you know you’ll be ready for Karazhan/Gruul’s Lair/Serpentshrine Cavern/Tempest Keep etc? Enter: Be Imba!
I have no idea what the name means, but just forget about that. This site pulls information directly from the Armory, analyzes it, and gives you a full breakdown of what you have, what’s missing, what you could/should have, where you may have gotten your gear, and where you could perform in the gear you have. All along the way, you get tips on how you could improve yourself. It’s an amazing tool our guild uses to better our gear/enchants/gems/enhancements.
Going more in-depth, here’s what it reports:
- Unenchanted Items: It will tell you what items you don’t have enchanted, but also gives you a suggested enchant as well.
- Empty Sockets: Tells you what items you don’t have socketed with a gem
- Low Quality Gems: Tells you what low quality gems you have in what items.
- Low Level Items: Tells you how many greens you have on you, you naughty gnome you!
- Class Hints: In my case, it tells me what my spell hit rating is.
- Hints: Tells you your current gear, the gem details that give you the stats on those as a total, any missed socket bonuses.
- Gear-O-Meter: This is what I really love about this site. The red bar shows you where you probably got your gear, while the blue bar shows where you would perform well. As you can see, from left to right, is a progression with heroics first, Sunwell last. It doesn’t get any easier to see if you’re truly ready for a certain level or not with this site!
(Check out the FAQ for pointers/instructions that I might have missed)
There are a couple downsides. For starters, because the site pulls information directly from the Armory, its data is sometimes out of date or not available. (Though the site does cache data.) Secondly, the site can be incredibly slow under heavy loads, because it limits how many people can query at the same time. Yet, it’s an incredible tool for anyone wanting to know where the stand with their gear, and I heavily recommend it!
