Getting Started For New Members

Welcome!
I’d like to take a moment to thank you for applying to the guild! We hope you’ll love it here like we do!

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we’re not a small group of people with a simple set of forums. ECC has quite a few members, and a lot of information spread out all over the place  I wanted to take some time to go over a few things to help get you started quickly.

The Forums
When you become a member, a whole new sections of the forums become available to you. It’s a great resource of information. Also note that some of the guild events, like raiding, require you to sign up on the forums rather than using guild calendar. Need to know where some particular information is on the forums? THIS page may help. (In development!)

When Are Most Members Online?

Typically during the weekdays the vast majority are on after 7PM server time. (This is also typical on the weekends.) There are other people on at various times, but the evenings seem to be the most active.

The Roster
We require every member to make an attempt at continuously updating our roster page. Using the character profiler mod you’ll find later on in this post, you can upload a file that will show us information about your character like your stats and what you can make. It’s also handy if you’re wanting a specific enchant/gem/etc and would rather have it made by a member instead of paying outrageous prices elsewhere.

Get The Mods/Programs We Require
Just like we stated on your questionnaire, we require a few things be used. Below you’ll find a description for each one, as well as a (secure) link as to where to get them.

Mods

Note: I have linked most of the mods to Curse because I’ve yet to have a single problem with malware from the downloads there. (Except in a few instances where I’ve linked directly to the developer.) As always, make sure you use the appropriate security programs to protect yourself from malware. Please also note, that many of the mods are hosted on our site HERE. (Please note I do not update these myself.)

BigWigs Bossmods
Download can be found HERE. BigWigs is a boss alert mod. It consists of many individual “boss modules”, mini addons that are designed to trigger alert messages and timer bars for one specific raid boss each. Modules are activated when you target or mouseover a Boss, or if any other BigWigs use in your raid does. In most cases only one module will be running at any given time.

GroupCalendar
Download can be found HERE. Group Calendar allows guilds or groups of friends to share an in-game event calendar. The guild can post raid events and members can post events for dungeons they need to do quests for. Additionally, players can provide feedback to the event’s sponsor saying that they will or won’t be attending an event. Once installed Group Calendar replaces the minimap current time tooltip and sun & moon icon. This can be used to open the UI or it can be opened using the /calendar command. Note this mod will also automatically track the cool-downs on profession items as well!

LittleWigs
Download can be found HERE. To put it simply, these are BigWigs modules that add some warnings to the bosses found in 5-man instances. This is a Third Party addon, and not officially developed by the BigWigs team.

Omen Threat Meater
Download can be found HERE. Omen is a threat meter. Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen attempts to do is provide reasonably accurate estimates of your group’s relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you’re in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you’re next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it’s useful for any multi-player situation.

Also note: Omen tends to be updated quite frequently, leaving older versions incompatible with new versions. The best way we’ve found to update this mod is to use WoAceUpdater, which is a (safe) external program that will not only update Omen and other ACE mods, but also allow you to install/manage/uninstall ACE mod available.

RPG Outfitter Character Profiler
Download can be found HERE. CharacterProfiler is a World of Warcraft addon that extracts character info including stats, equipment, inventory (bags & bank), trade skills, spellbook, mail, and pets. This is saved in your SavedVariables\CharacterProfiler.lua in the myProfile block. This information can then be uploaded to your website to display your profile(s).

NOTE: You would go HERE and upload the file periodically to update yourself. Please ask for help if you run into trouble!

Ventrilo
Download can be found HERE.This is actually a program you install, not a mod. Instead of the game’s built-in chat feature, we use this outside program to communicate to each other during instances/raids/whenever. Even if you don’t have a mic, it’s required you have ‘Vent’ on so you can at least here instructions from other people.(You can find the server information at the bottom of THIS Post, but you MUST be a registered member to see it!)

Recommended
There are a few that we don’t require, but a quite a few of our members use them…

  • Identity: This is a mod that places some text next to your name. Since a lot of us are alt-a-holics, we use this to identify who the alt is. An example of how this would look; “Haidar: (This Is Kibs!) hey there new member!” Though, a lot of us like to put something goofy instead like; “Kibibi: (CandyMountain!) Hey there new member!
  • Altoholic: Help with your (if you’re like us) numerous alts.

If you have any issues with the mods or programs, flag someone down or make a forum post. Someone will help you out pronto!

The Guild Bank
It’s for everyone to use, not just people who have been with us for a while. Note that you will never be able to withdrawal anything yourself, and all requests must be made in THIS part of our forums. Donations of items or money may of course be made at any time. We deeply encourage all of our members to request what they will use, as well as contribute what you can. Make sure you read the rules/procedures if you get lost.

Group Calendar

One of our required mods, we use this to plan just about everything in the guild. All of our members are accustomed to throwing up their runs on the calendar and letting people sign up as they see fit. Keeping in mind, many members will throw up an instance run in advanced, so don’t always expect to have people signed-up an hour after you put it up ;)

Raiding
For new members especially, you can’t just jump into Karazhan with us the day you’re brought into the guild. We typically request members get keyed and run a few heroics with senior members a few times. This does a couple of things. It shows you how we run instances, and it shows us what kind of level/gear/skill you’re at.

It’s vital you understand our loot rules in instances but especially the raiding loot rules. We have zero-tolerance for ninja-looters, and there is no excuse for you not understanding the rules. You can also read abou the general procedures/rules on our forums HERE. (They may make more sense once you’ve run a few instances with us.)

Typically we like to run two Kara groups a week. In addition, we occasionally will run Zul’Aman and Old-World raids as well. We’re looking into getting into the 25-man runs now, but that will be heavily dependant on gear/skill-ready folks.

The most important thing we like to stress is that we’re not a hard-core raiding guild and don’t want to be. We raid to experience new content and have a good time with good friends. If you’ve never experienced that before, I think you’ll be blown-away at how much fun it can be.

Our Guild Is What You Make Of It
What I mean by that is we have members at all levels of activity. Some are really interactive, while others are fairly quiet. That’s OK! We don’t require everyone to be social butterflies, and we won’t punish you for not being active. That being said, what goes on in the guild is very Dependant on guild participation. Sometimes officers will start events, but it’s more often than not our members who initiate things. If you want to do something, speak up and ask. You’ll be surprised sometimes how many other people would be interested!

A Word On ‘Maturity’
OK, so we’ve touted ourselves as being a ‘mature’ guild. I want to explain a little more about that since there has been confusion in the past as to what this means exactly…

We are not one of those guilds filled with members like the warrior described in THIS story. (Racist, sexist, ignorant morons.)  But we’re not a guild of kindergarten teachers either. Guild chat, Vent chat, and forum topics’ ratings can range anywhere between G-X with everything taken in moderation.

In essence, we’re a very eclectic group of people with eclectic tastes. We have people of different colors, nationalities, sexualities, etc. We are mature enough to both handle the differences and similarities in each other. (Whether that be talking about a subject, or poking fun at each other.) We’re mature enough to truly enjoy everyone’s differences.

If You Have Questions/Concerns/Ideas/Need Help
Lastly, feel free to ask anyone for assistance, and don’t be shy! We’d much rather something be brought to our attention and taken care of then someone leaving over a simple issue. We want all of our members to feel comfortable to come to anyone with their thoughts.

We have officers and other people in special roles to help members with various things, too. Whether you need help with your class, or help setting up a party, there’s someone you can go to for help.

We try very hard to make sure you’re assigned a ‘mentor.’ They’re basically your ‘go-to’ person. In addition, they’ll periodically check on you in the first two weeks your with us just to make sure everything’s OK, and sometimes to remind you of certain aspects of the guild. (Typically everything that’s being said in this post.)

Once again, welcome to the family! If you have any other questions/concerns/lawsuits after reading this, ask someone and we’ll help you out!
