Why Privacy Is Important In A Guild

Posted by: Kibibi   in Kibibi's Korner

OK, so internet meme pictures aside, it’s not something I really thought about until recently. Now, our guild specifically states in our code of conduct that we won’t release personal information. To quote:

“ECC respects the privacy of our members. Your contact information is used for only that: contact and communications. We will not share your information with any other company, guild, or individual without contacting you first. You are also requested to not give out another member’s information without contacting/asking the person directly.” Read the rest of this entry »

Our Code Of Conduct

Posted by: Kibibi   in Guild Resources

Every member is asked and expected to follow our Code of Conduct (CoC) that is outlined below. Ex Cinis Cineris will be referred to as ECC in this CoC. The CoC was last updated as of January of 2008.

Your Privacy
ECC respects the privacy of our members. Your contact information is used for only that: contact and communications. We will not share your information with any other company, guild, or individual without contacting you first. You are also requested to not give out another member’s information without contacting/asking the person directly.

Exploits
ECC will have a STRICT ‘no-exploit’ policy. This is not only to protect ECC, but also individual members. Remember, the use of game exploits could possibly get you and/or the guild banned.

Democratic Practices
This simply means that our members have a share in the process to choose what goes on within the guild. All guild members have an equal voice concerning all issues. Majority vote will (for the most part) be conducted on these issues. Likewise, if an issue comes up that no one brings to the table or is an unforeseen occurrence; the Guild Master may enact resolution(s) to be resented/applied to the general guild membership.

Officers Are Senior Members
Although they do not have absolute power, Officers are considered senior members of the guild. As such, they do have the authority to utilize certain decision making powers that are granted to them. This of course does not mean that this is absolute or is to be abused.

Respect

All members are expected to give respect to their guild mates, and other people in the game as well. Should an issue come up where someone is not respecting another, it should be brought up to an Officer or Guild Master, so it can be dealt with appropriately.

Issues With ECC Guild Members And/Or Other Guilds & Players:
If you have an issue with someone, it is best to try to deal with those people as directly as possible. If this is not possible, get an Officer or 3rd party involved (ranking member). Please keep in mind that chat
can often be misinterpreted, and most issues can be resolved with people talking in the most direct way possible. Let us not forget we all are adults here playing to have fun. Don’t ruin, or let other people ruin, your gaming experience. This is what the IGNORE button was meant for.

Items & Gear Buying/Trading

People are free to buy/trade items & gear appropriately. Use common sense here, you should want to help your guild members and not gouge them. Remember the person you take advantage of may be the person you need something from in the future.

Non-Binding Roster
What this simply means is that you are free to leave our guild at any time, no questions asked. We would, of course, appreciate a message to an Officer or the Guild Master informing ECC that you are leaving.

Dealing With Other Guilds

ECC is not currently warring with any other guild, and we would like to keep it this way. Additionally,
we are not aligned with another guild. If we are approached by another guild for an alliance or to raid with on a consistent basis, once again please inform the Guild Master or Officers so a determination can be made if we want to form an alliance with another guild.

Use Of The Forums Or Other Tools/Sites
The forums we use, Ventrilo, IRC, hosting services, etc, are often paid out of pocket from our members. Please respect these tools, and the people that provide them. Should they be abused, a member could be banned from using them and/or excused from the guild. Please be courteous. It is an added bonus that we have these tools at our disposal.

Guild Bank
Our members have a guild bank at their disposal. It has it’s own rules/guidelines that you may find HERE. Abusing the guild bank, or selling items you request from the guild bank will have you excused from the guild immediately.

Loot Rules
ECC has specific 5-Man Instance and Raiding loot rules that are to be followed. (Links go to the respective posts.)

Role-Playing
Some members of ECC may want to RP. We can organize a channel for this purpose. You are welcome to role play when ever you want, that choice is yours, however remember not everyone likes to RP so please be considerate. Also, please use common sense that if you go into any “questionable” type of role play, try to keep it in private or in a secluded party chat.

We Do Have Structure

This means that although we are laid back, we must also have a leadership structure to keep everything
organized and running smoothly. The Guild Master, Officers, or senior members do have authority (as mentioned above). We ask that you abide by their requests, within reason.

Required Mods
Hand in hand with the above, to take advantage of our instance schedules, raids, events, roster, etc, we require our members to download, use, update, and occasionally update data from mods & add-ons. You can read more about them and why we require them HERE.

For Ages 18+
We are a group of mature players, and we’d like to keep it that way. For that reason, we request all of our members be of ages 18+. (With exceptions only made by the guild master.) Lying about one’s age is cause for immediate guild removal.

Removal from the Guild

We hope that this never has to occur but unfortunately and occasionally it does. Recurring offenses of
breaking this CoC, can lead to expulsion. Let’s make this simple. If you have a momentary lapse of reason, you’ll be warned, if you disregard and disrespect ECC or the CoC on a consistent basis, it is better for both the member and ECC to part ways. No member will be removed without prior warning from either the Guild Master or an Officer.

Lastly, remember the tag above your character’s head, and the consequences – good and bad – that your actions could have on those around you. As the saying goes … Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Let’s make ECC a guild to be proud of!
