It’s kind of funny, seeing Blizzard implementing things like an in-game calendar system and threat meter. It almost looks like they’re trying to cut down on the most-frequently-used mods. For our guild especially, Group Calendar and Omen are two of the biggest mods that we need, and require frequent updating. (Omen, epecially!) It used to be, we could update a large portion of our mods through WowAceUpdater, though now it looks like that’s going to die here fairly soon. What other options are out there? One of our required mods for the guild, is Group Calendar. It allows everyone in the guild to plan events, instance runs, raids, whatever. (And thankfully, also tracks profession cool-downs.) Well, there’s a new beta of Wrath, and Blizzard gave us a wonderful gift: and in-game calendar system! Will this mean the end of Group Calendar? So far, it appears that it tracks game events like the Darkmoon Faire. According to WOW Insider, there’s also a way for users to add their own events and share them with others. (Like setting up instance/raid runs.) Read the rest of this entry »

Here we are! It’s the last post in this series and it’s more or less a wrap-up of everything else we talked about, as well as a few other things I thought I’d throw in…
(NOTE: these posts typically have links in them that go to other websites that delve into deeper detail than I will, in case you’re curious to learn about the nitty-gritty.) Read the rest of this entry »

Last night, a few guildies noticed something strange… there was a GM Ticket icon somewhere on their screen. Well no, you’re not going crazy. It was a bug with both Titan and FuBar. (Titan has been updated to correct the problem, FuBar shouldn’t be far behind.) You should be able to update the mods and the problem will go away. It should be noted to not follow the instructions in the WOW Insider article, as that would create a real ticket, causing GM’s to curse you with bad luck for the next month or so.
Speaking of the number of characters in our guild, I read THIS post from WoW Insider today, talking about how Blizzard should have some kind of official alt-tracking feature. Man, that would be sweet! I know as it is, our officers just use the member notes to keep track of who is a main, and who is an alt. Which, admittedly, isn’t all that bad. I use Guild FU to tell me, among other things, the note attached to the character, which usually tells me who the alt belongs to. Read the rest of this entry »
I participate in a site that collects statistics on realms. (WarcraftRealms) Although not really ‘helpful,’ it’s interesting to see various stats about a particular server. The mod I use collects all sorts of information, from guilds, characters, levels, races, times played, last seen, activity ratios, etc. After the jump, I pulled some common data I look at for our realm… Read the rest of this entry »
Ex Cinis Cineris only requires our members to use two mods which are listed below. Other than that, we will only recommend a few others…
The Two Required Mods
Below are the only two mods we require our members to use, but both use extremely little resources…
RPGO-CharacterProfiler: Our guild requests from our members that they upload some data into our Guild Roster. (Though data like what’s in your bags/bank, can be excluded.) We do this primarily because it allows any of our members to see what everyone can make, what their talents are, their class, etc. (Much more data than what is currently available in the WoW Armory.) You can find the latest version HERE on Curse.
GroupCalendar: This is our event manager. Our members schedule parties, instances, raids, meetings and other events with this handy add-on. In addition to that, it can also track when certain items you can make are available. (It can track the cool down of mooncloth, for example.) You can find the latest version HERE on Curse.
Other “Heavily Reccomended” Mods
These other mods/add-ons/outside programs aren’t required, but are heavily recommended
Identity
It’s no secret many of us in the guild are ‘alt-a-holics.’ To help everyone know how we are, Identity can help with that. What it basically does is stick some text in parentheses before your actual message in guild chat. So for example, instead of ‘(Ambros):’ you get ‘(Ambros): (Kibibi).’ Though, you can put in anything you want, like what your status is (Questing). You can find the latest version HERE on Curse.
Omen (Or Other Threat-Meter)
This add-on is great because it shows you exactly how much ‘threat‘ you are generating in the game. Extremely useful, and just about a requirement if you’re in instances/raids. You can find the latest version HERE on Curse.
Ventrilo
OK, so ‘Vent,’ isn’t exactly a mod or an add-on. Never the less, it’s just as important as it’s a voice chat program. (Yes, WoW offers an in-game client, but Ventrilo is better.) You can download the latest version HERE, and find the instructions on how to connect to our private server HERE. (You must be a registered guild member to see the instructions. Look for Kitcat’s post 12/18/07) Understandably, not everyone has a mic, but instances/raids go much smoother when the leaders can verbally give instructions.
