
WoW Insider reports that a ‘Blizzard Authenticator‘ is going to be introduced at the Worldwide Invitational. Basically, it’s some kind of device that’s separate from your computer. Once you hook it into your account, you’ll press a button on the device to generate a six-digit code that’ll be required to log into the game. Ideally, this would provide not just a layer of security, but a wool blanket since, in theory, it would be very difficult indeed for someone to crack the codes. OK, so internet meme pictures aside, it’s not something I really thought about until recently. Now, our guild specifically states in our code of conduct that we won’t release personal information. To quote:
“ECC respects the privacy of our members. Your contact information is used for only that: contact and communications. We will not share your information with any other company, guild, or individual without contacting you first. Ugh, oh! One of the bloggers, Amanda Dean, over at WoW Insider got her account hacked. She apparently lost almost everything, but fortunately it seems like the hacker only moved one of her characters. Amanda doesn’t know where the keylogger came from, but if you’re as experienced as I am with computers, you know very well it didn’t just install itself.
